Go! Princess Precure 40
A gripe I've had about the amnesia arc since 2015 is how it really should've focused on the relationship between Towa and Kanata instead. Here were two siblings who were torn apart at a young age and by the time they finally reconnect, they alternate between being brainwashed and having amnesia. They didn't really do very much with the brainwashing bit—understandable since the plot was moving at a clip—but the fact that they didn't do ANYTHING with these two for the whole FIVE EPISODES of amnesia is ridiculous. Outside of the first episode, Towa doesn't seem to care that her brother has lost his memories and doesn't really make any attempt to reconnect or engage with him. She essentially just goes "Oh? You can't remember anything? Well, clearly my brother is dead and you're just someone who's just assumed his name (a la Umineko lol)." Neither does she really crash out because he isn't the man in her memories.
And why is that? Because the staff at Toei really wanted to push some ol' fashioned *:・゚✧hEtErONOrMaTiViTy*:・゚✧ * in our faces. Forget the family who's been with you in your childhood—clearly the person most key to recovering your memories is a girl you met for two minutes like 10 years ago. After 30-odd episodes of a stellar season, BAM sudden het agenda. Not even a good het—speaking as someone who enjoys both NozoCoco and UraSyrup. Clearly the most forced het in existence. I'm glad that we can ignore it for the most part, but what a blemish on an otherwise incredible season. A BLEMISH THAT MAKES TOWA LOOK UNCARING AND SELFISH AS A RESULT. What a fumble.
SO! I took the opportunity to make Towa and Kanata seem like real siblings. First story is clearly an Umineko reference lol. The second story is one pulled from real life, except *I* was the one who bumped into my (younger) brother and cried because I thought he bit off his tongue >>;;;; And when I was coming up with the third story, I remembered that Towa's animal is a sheep in that one line of merch! It's fate!!
